Medical billing is a "sub-specialty" of medical coding. Duties include auditing medical records to identify billing codes for services, such as consultations, procedures and tests. Applies current regulations, policies and procedures along with effective decision-making and problem-solving skills in the patient billing/coding process. Understand medical terminology, strong communication skills and computer skills. Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. Knowledge of the various administrative software products used to support billing/coding activities, such as IDX medical billing software. The ability to work independently, sound judgment and detail oriented. Assist in outstanding A/R and must have proven success in reducing A/R while maintaining the highest level of customer service and professionalism.
High School diploma or equivalent. Minimum of 1 year in Health care setting. A degree in Health Information Technology and credentialed as a registered coder a PLUS!
